How to set up a Gmail account for use with Skyware

Skyware users must have an email service set up (such as Outlook or Gmail) to facilitate the sending of any correspondence emails (for example, reservation or confirmation emails) created within Skyware to your customers. This allows you to generate the body of the required email(s) within Skyware yet send the emails as if they were being created through the email service. This email service account may be with any service provider outside of Skyware, if the provider allows it - often, such service is only provided with PAID/PURCHASED accounts (mailboxes). For email servers OTHER than Gmail, please see How to set up an outside Email account for use with Skyware.

With Gmail, this may be a free Gmail acount or a purchased Gmail workstation account. Setting the email service as Gmail is relatively simple, and is performed in Skyware using the Web/Email tab of the Property Definition screen. It does however require information and changes in permission settings from Gmail, which should be completed first. In brief, the first thing you will need to do in Gmail is turn on 2 Step Verification. (This may need to be enabled at the Admin level). Next, you will need to create a Skyware App Password. Once you have done so, you will need to return to Skyware, where you will enter the app password on the Property Definition screen.

After entering and saving your user name (email address) and the password for Gmail within Skyware, you will now be able to use Gmail as your email service and send emails generated within Skyware via Gmail.

Note: Previously, when using a purchased Gmail Workspace account, 2-step verification was NOT required to be on. This is no longer the case (the "less secure app access" option has been removed). You must now enable 2-step verification to allow the App password generation. However, for general email use it appears that you can subsequently skip the 2 step verification process if you mark your devices as "trusted". See the help from Google on adding Trusted Devices:
